EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing and is a form of psychotherapy. Francine Shapiro developed EMDR to treat trauma related disorders caused by distressing life experiences such as military combat, rape, abuse or other traumatic life events.
When a distressing life experience occurs, Shapiro theorized that the usual cognitive and neurological coping mechanisms become overwhelmed and the corresponding memory of the event is processed such that the memory is improperly stored, thus causing lingering problems.
EMDR Therapy attempts to access these distressing memories so they can be processed more efficiently, which in turn allows the client to develop a stronger coping mechanism.
EMDR has been shown to be effective in treating Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and has been declared a first line treatment by the US Department of Defense / Department of Veterans Affairs.
Rapid Resolution Therapy (RRT) provides trauma treatment for survivors, those experiencing addictions, depression, anxiety, or mind and body health issues. Rapid Resolution Therapy® eliminates emotional pain and destructive behavioral patterns and completely resolves the psychological and physiological effects of trauma.
Rachel is a certified master practitioner that can assist in eliminating the effects of negative life experiences. She has successfully applied this technique with children as well as adults.
